Bath Renovation: Ordinary Becomes Sleek and Sophisticated! Welcome to the 130th Metamorphosis Monday!

Recently, my friend Mary completed a full renovation of her master bath. It was an amazing transformation! Mary totally cracked me up when she described her bath in an e-mail to me. She said, "First, it is not a spa, it is more like a Muggle Telephone Booth that takes you to the Ministry of Magic. Do we have any Harry Potter fans out there? :)

    Mary's bath, BEFORE:

Mary's home was built in 1980, before the era of really big bathrooms. But Mary doesn't see having a small bathroom as a negative.

Instead, Mary said, "Now that I am older, I love that I don't have a spa. Who the heck can bend down and clean all that floor space in those party bathrooms? I sure can't. I have more fun things to do. :)"

Let's take a look at Mary's bath before the renovation. Before, it was functional, but very plain in design...typical for the 1980's.

    The floor BEFORE the renovation...

BEFORE view of the shower area. Are you ready to see the After? :)

Wow, quite a difference, isn't it?! Mary told me her bathroom renovation was done by Chesapeake Remodel. Gone are the beige walls and brown tiles! Mary chose Benjamin Moore, Marina Gray for her walls. It really feels sleek and sophisticated, doesn't it?

The shower has gone through a huge transformation! The walls were finished in American Olean, Series name: Catarina. It's a ceramic product, though it looks a lot like marble, doesn't it? Mary said, "The wall above the old shower was taken out and part of the wall beside the shower, leaving a knee wall. A clear glass shower door and panel were installed, both trimmed in chrome.

Mary said her installer had his doubts when he first saw how large the tiles were (12 x 24) for this bath design. In the end, everyone was really pleased with how it turned out. The shower walls are American OleanSeries name: Catarina Color: Coliseum White. The shower floor is American Olean, Unglazed Mosaics, Color: Storm Gray Speckled AO6.

A new light fixture was selected.

Mary upgraded her light fixture during this renovation, going from two lights to three. The additional light really adds to the open feel of the new design.

Mary went with a silver and white cultured marble top to compliment the shower walls. She chose the following paint for this remodel: Ceiling Paint- Benjamin Moore Kitchen and Bath paint: White; Wall Paint- Benjamin Moore Kitchen and Bath paint: Color Name-Marina Gray Color; Trim Paint: Benjamin Moore Latex-White.

The sink Faucet is by Delta- Leland Two Handle (Spread apart) Chrome Finish. Shower Faucet is by Delta- Classic Monitor Series Chrome Finish.

    Love the flooring...wow!

Mary, thanks so much for sharing this wonderful bathroom make-over. It is an amazing transformation and just shows that even a small bath can be designed to feel elegant and sophisticated!
